tacos, turning 26 + healing the world

I spent a lot of the last year wrestling through the muck and mire. Good friends and sunsets and tacos and a lot of love from my parents got me through a messy beautiful year of being 25. So here's to the 5 toughest, most challenging, wonderful things I learned while 25. Oh and more tacos of course.

1. If it's not working, you can change it.

No one said you had to keep that job, or live in that apartment, or stay in that friendship. If you don't like it, if it's draining your energy, if you dread that part of your life, let go of it. Don't listen to the rules you set forth years ago, you've probably grown out of them by now. Adjust, change, and walk away if you have to.

2. Your expectations can be the death of your enjoyment.

Your friends will let you down. And so will your boss and your family and occasionally, yourself. Over the last year I learned that when I put my personal expectations on others it leaves no space for them to be themselves. My friends are not me, and I am not them. We will each fail and fall and rise in different ways. We're all better when given permission to live in our own skin.

3. You've got more grit than you realize.

You will spend a lot of time wrestling the demons you never knew existed. Don't let the fear stop you from fighting. You've got overcome coursing through your blood. Remember, you are not the property of the things you have practiced. Stop running, there's a light brighter than all this darkness.

4. Don't be afraid to make some noise.

Do not be the kind of person who tiptoes through life. Run and dance and stomp your feet. Send that unicorn emoji, laugh as loud as your lungs will allow. Don't worry about who sees you pass by or what they'll think. You've got places to go and noise to make.

5. This world needs you.

When the wrecking ball kind of people leave this world dismembered, take heart. Every time you choose to love without fear, to pour yourself out like an offering, to let bravery win - you are healing the world. Start now, start somewhere. The world is waiting, so get going.
